MENU LABEL AND KEY MATCHING METHOD AND APPARATUS

PURPOSE: To remove restrictions on size and place of a label field by displaying menu labels near a set of keys and redefining keys of this set so that they match the menu labels and displaying a guide between each menu label and a matched key. CONSTITUTION: When a computer is turned on and a shift key 26 and one menu key 24 are depressed in order, menu labels 28 are displayed on an LCD display screen 30. The same set of keys in a row 34 close to the display screen 30 are redefined so that they match the functions of menu labels. Guides 42 are displayed between menu labels 28 and matched keys in the row 34 on the display screen 30 to indicate which of several keys matches an overlapping label. Thus, restrictions on size and plane of the menu label field are removed.
