PURPOSE:To prepare methacrolein by oxidizing isobutylene or t-butanol using a catalyst containing Mo, Te, Fe, Ni, Cu, Mg, Tl, In, Pb, O, etc., having excellent resistance to reduction, and exhibiting high activity and selectivity. CONSTITUTION:Methacrolein is prepared by the oxidation of isobutylene or t- butanol using a catalyst of formula (a-h are molar numbers of respective atoms per 12mol of Mo, and a,b,c,d,=0.1-6, e=0.1-8, f=0.1-3, g=0.05-3, h=0-8, and i is the number determined by a-h; X is Mg, Ca, Ba or Sr; Y is Tl, Rb or Cs). The combination of Cu with the X-component improves the reduction resistance of the catalyst, and the addition of the Y-component (especially Tl) and Pb improves the selectivity of methacrolein. The Y-component is also effective to suppress the lowering of the catalytic activity, and In suppresses the by-production of unnecessary acids. |
