PURPOSE: To operate the locator within various restriction conditions of a LAN system by providing an echo module and a processor module to both opposite ends of a straight line cable including a plurality of broadcast transceivers. CONSTITUTION: A time limit of an inter-frame gap is used to propagate an echo pulse EP with respect to a packet BP received on a cable 12 from an echo module 11 to a processor module 13. Since the arrival time to the two signal modules 13 is simply different, the time difference is used to decide a distance expressed in a signal propagation time of a station that broadcasts a packet 'finally' from the echo module 11 to the cable 12. In the case that a station making broadcast is placed on a branch of the LAN network at a node point NP, only a temporal distanceΔT1 from the node point NP to the echo module is decided.
