The sampling device allows a milk sample vol. representative of the overall vol. fed along the transfer line (4) to be collected with subsequent removal of the sample from the collected vol. at the end of the transfer process. The quantity of milk diverted from the transfer line (4) is controlled in dependence on the pressure. The static pressure of the sample vol. and the static pressure of the milk within the transfer line (4) adjacent the sampling point (I) are equalised. Pref. the latter is effected via a press equalisation line (6) communicating with the head space of the sample collection container (17).
