PRODUCTION OF BETA,BETA'-DIMETHYLNAPHTHALENE

摘要

PURPOSE:To carry out reaction in the liquid phase using a monocyclic compound having a specific number or more of CH3 groups in the benzene ring as an alkylating agent in trans-methylating naphthalene and/or monomethylnaphthalene with the alkylating agent and providing the subject substance. CONSTITUTION:Naphthalene or monomethylnaphthalene or body are reacted with a monocyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (preferably penta- and hexamethylbenzenes) having >=5 CH3 groups introduced into the benzene ring as an alkylating agent in the liquid phase at <=200 deg.C (preferably 30-130 deg.C) for 5min to 10hr to afford the subject substance. The alkylating agent is used in an amount of 5-200mol% based on the raw material compound and o- dichlorobenzene is preferred as a solvent. The subject substance useful as an intermediate for polymer raw materials can be selectively obtained in high yield using a simple apparatus and operation according to the above-mentioned method.
