PURPOSE: To separate a large DNA at high rate by selecting the field cut-off frequency, the direction and the magnitude depending on the size of a molecule to be analyzed. CONSTITUTION: The electrophoretic system comprises a gel electrophoretic medium 90, a circuit for changing the direction of the field an electrophoretic separation unit at a first frequency, and a circuit element for changing the field in a different manner at a second frequency at least two times as high as the first frequency. The circuit element for changing the field at a second frequency comprises an element for varying the magnitude of field in order to provide a separating DNA molecule with a zigzag track, and an element for changing the direction or the angle of the field. The first frequency has a period longer than 20 sec. A circuit element for imparting a perturbation cut-off pulse in a different manner without varying the field may also be included. According to the arrangement, a large DNA can be separated at high rate by selecting the field cut-off frequency, the direction and the magnitude depending on the size of a molecule to be analyzed. |
