CONTROL METHOD FOR ELECTRIC POWER STEERING DEVICE

PURPOSE:To prevent steering from being disabled due to the mechanical rotation failure of a motor by disengaging a clutch when the change width of the steering angle is the preset angle or below and the steering torque is the preset torque or above to the right or the left in an electric power steering device. CONSTITUTION:A motor 8 is operated by a power controller 30 connected to a controller 1 with the electric power generated by a generator 4 driven by the power of an engine 3, and this power is applied to a front wheel steering mechanism via an electromagnetic clutch 9 as a steering auxiliary force. The controller 1 generates a control signal based on output signals of a vehicle speed sensor 3a, a torque sensor 6 and a steering angle sensor 7. The electromagnetic clutch 9 is disengaged when the change width of the steering angle is the preset angle or below and the steering torque is the preset torque or above to the right or the left in this power steering device, and steering is prevented from being disabled due to the mechanical rotation failure of the motor 8.
