PURPOSE: To enhance the aq. dispersibility of composite particles by mixing first polymer particles having covalent bonded ion groups on the surfaces and second polymer particles at a glass transition temp. or above to form the composite particles. CONSTITUTION: The aq. dispersion of the first polymer particles contg. covalent bonded ion groups on the surfaces as to impart colloidal stability is prepd. The aq. dispersion of the first polymer particles and the stable aq. dispersion in the colloidal dispersion state of the second polymer particles are mixed at the temp. above the effective glass transition temp. of the second polymer particles. At this time, the mixing is executes under the conditions satisfying equation I (r1-3 denotes the boundary energy of the boundary between the surfaces of the first particles and an aq. liquid, r1-2 denotes the boundary energy of the boundary between the surfaces of the first particles and the second particles and r2-3 denotes the boundary energy between the surfaces of the second particles and the aq. liquid.).
