This is a decontamination method for an area of ground that has been newly and locally contaminated with liquid hydrocarbons or hydrocarbon mixts. A washing fluid is fed into the ground, and on its way down it absorbs the harmful substances. Below, it is drawn off via at least one suction pit, conveyed to the surface, cleared of the harmful material, and if necessary, fed again into the ground. Before the washing fluid is used, concrete emulsion is sprayed in under pressure to form a trough-like barrier from whose deepest part the washing fluid is sucked out. Several variants are claimed. USE/ADVANTAGE - The method, for dealing with these hydrocarbons as soon as possible after the contamination, is quick and not very expensive; it limits the extent of the affected area, so helping to reduce costs. It can be used below buildings, roads, etc. ground water is not affected.
