PURPOSE:To obtain a magnesia-based composite ceramics product excellent in corrosion resistance for molten metal and molten metallic oxide and large in toughness and thermal shock resistance by constituting the above-mentioned ceramics product of a structure wherein a whisker or platelike particles of specified carbide and nitride, etc., are dispersed in a specified state in the matrix of magnesia. CONSTITUTION:Slurry is formed by mixing 12 pts.wt. composite material such as whisker (0.1-1mu diameter, 5-100mu length) of SiC and Si3N4, etc., or platelike particles (<=100mu diameter, 0.5-5mu thickness) of SiC and BN, etc., and 3 pts.wt. sintering adjuvant with 85 pts.wt. MgO powder (<=1mu mean particle diameter) and utilizing this mixture and a nonaqueous soln. or an aq. soln. This slurry is regulated to <=3.0 poise viscosity, molded and calcined. A magnesia-based composite ceramics product is obtained wherein the whisker is secondarily and random dispersed parallel to the inner face of ceramics in a range over the whole inner thickness in an MgO matrix or the platelike faces of the platelike particles are dispersed to the direction parallel to the inner faces of ceramics. |
