PURPOSE: To reduce the electric field strength by making the sectional area of an elution chamber equal to or smaller than that of a gel column. CONSTITUTION: A gel column 111 and an elution chamber 73 are separated by a filter film 105, thus preventing any trouble to the motion of a gigantic molecule from a gel to the buffer liquid of the chamber 73. A partial length L1 of the column 111 screened by the film 105 may be any part of the gel column length, and a partial length L2 of the chamber 73 screened by the film 105 may be any part of the chamber length. A voltage is applied to an electrode and current flows to the gel and the buffer liquid. The sections of the gel column 111 and the chamber 73 are symmetrical, a voltage drop along the length of the gel column results from an intensity E1 of a field and the length, and a voltage drop along the length of the chamber 73 results from a strength E2 of the field and the length. The strength of the field along a path is inversely proportional to the electrical conductivity change and the sectional area change of the medium. Virtual flow lines 113, 115, 117, 119, and 121 cross the get column and the elution chamber, thus reducing the strength of the electric field. |
