The stake 1 is produced according to the invention by rolling a rectangular blank of mild steel sheet metal to constitute a tube of rectangular cross-section with rounded corners, with two short sides 2, 4 and two long sides 3, 5. The edges of the blank 5a, 5b overlap flat along a longitudinal overlap strip 5c substantially in the middle of the long side 5. The galvanising of the stake 1, by immersion in a bath of melted zinc, welds the edges 5a, 5b along the overlap strip 5c which gives excellent rigidity to the stake 1. Pairs 6, 6' of holes are punched in the short sides 2 and 4, in which holes ties (fasteners) 7 made from stainless steel wire are engaged, which form a support for the spanning wires 8.1, 8.2, 8.3.
