The invention relates to a system for automatic and permanent provision of vehicles. This system comprises in particular: - a set of parking areas (AS1, ..., ASn) in which the self-service vehicles (VH1, ..., VHn, VHp, ..., VHs) are parked, each equipped with an on-board computer module (MIE); - a parked computer port (BIP1, ..., BIPn) placed respectively at an access to the parking areas (AS1, ..., ASn) and equipped in particular with a payment pass reader (LCP) and with a local central processing unit; - a central control unit (UC) placed in the premises (BSL) of a company which rents out the vehicles (VH1, ..., VHs) to users and linked by a line of the switched telephone network to each of the local central processing units of the computer ports (BP1, ..., BPn), these various elements cooperating to monitor the state of the vehicles (VH1, ..., VHs), their availability, the solvency of the users and their ability to drive the chosen vehicles and to calculate the cost of each rental. The invention can be used in particular, in airport terminals, the stations of the railway network and in any private vehicle rental agency. <IMAGE>
