There is disclosed a solenoid stack for a piano incorporating an array of striker solenoids (3), each of which includes an outer shell (15), a coil (16) disposed within the outer shell (15) and having an axial passage (18) extending through its entire length, an inner shell (17) within the coil and a slug (19) moving axially within the inner shell (17) in response to selective energization of the coil (16). The slug (19) is provided with a passage through its length, and the passage includes an internally threaded section (21) which a threaded push rod (23) engages such that an upper end extends above the slug and carries a pusher tip (14). An adjustable stop member (24) is provided at the bottom of the slug (19) to limit the stroke of each individual solenoid assembly. A mounting plate (2) includes an array of apertures (9) for receiving the striker solenoid assemblies (in threaded, press-fit or the equivalent engagement) within the keybed (1) such that each solenoid assembly is juxtaposed with respect to an individual keytail (10, 11). In one variation, the mounting plate is made up of a series of modules (33) each with two or more solenoid-receiving apertures (32) having offset fore and aft sections (35, 36). A "top hat" mounting assembly (43) is also disclosed by the use of which a unitary player assembly may be obtained. |
