The device for the determination of the amount of water required by a culture substrate placed in a culture box (100) is comprised of a measurement wheel (10) arranged vertically and mounted on a vertical wall (106) so as to freely rotate about a horizontal axis (19), while rotating untrue. The bottom part of the measurement wheel (10) is situated a few millimetres from the bottom of the box reservoir. The measurement wheel is comprised of a first part (14) which is little hydrophilic and whose mean density is lower than one, and a second part provided with hydrophilic means (13) which cause a modification of the unbalance of the wheel in relation to the quantity of water retained in the hydrophilic means (13). The device is comprised of display means (15) showing the angular position of the measurement wheel (10) in order to give an indication as to the water requirements for the substrate. |
