PURPOSE:To eliminate the phenomenon of the generation of a chromatic aberration by setting the film thickness and refractive index of a mode index type lens area according to the structure of an optical waveguide area of its peripheral part, and cancelling effect due to structure dispersion mutually. CONSTITUTION:The optical waveguide device which has an optical waveguide formed on a substrate and also has a mode index type aspherical lens in this optical waveguide has the optical waveguide area and mode index type lens area formed so that DELTAn1/N1 DELTAN2/N2 holds, where N1 and N2 are the equivalent refractive indexes of the optical waveguide and aspherical lens and DELTAN1 and DELTAN2 are variations of the respective equivalent refractive indexes. This example shows that a planoconvex mode index lens 18 is provided as the aspherical lens in the optical waveguide 17. Then the film thickness and refractive index of the lens area are set matching the structure of the optical waveguide area at its peripheral part and the effect due to the structure dispersion is canceled mutually. |
