METHOD AND DEVICE FOR FABRICATING A FIBREMAT

For the production of shaped articles, fibre mats of low density are compression moulded at elevated temperature. Such fibre mats are produced by spreading a mixture of fibres and binders to form a nonwoven and compressing this at elevated temperature to give a mat. To influence the properties of the shaped article in a specific manner with simultaneous reduction of the binder requirement and of the density, it is proposed that the fibre mat or sections thereof be passed through a pair of rollers having polished roller surfaces and binder be applied from the aqueous phase, by means of at least one roller, to that side of the fibre mat which faces it, with application of slight pressure, and that the fibre mat be passed through the pair of rollers at a lower speed than the peripheral speed thereof and be fed to a drying zone after the pair of rollers. A top layer of a random nonwoven may additionally be applied on the upper and lower surfaces.
