PURPOSE:To obtain a cation exchange membrane by which the sensitivity of a reduction current value ascribable to carbon dioxide gas dissolved in an aqueous system such as blood can be improved and the selectivity for the existing oxygen gas can be improved by using a fluorocarbon resin having a specified group at the terminal of the side chain and containing a terpyridine ligand- transition metal complex. CONSTITUTION:A cation exchange membrane comprising a fluorocarbon resin having at least either a sulfonyl group or a trifluoroacetic acid group at the terminal of the side chain and containing a terpyridine ligand/transition metal complex [e.g. a complex of formula I, II or III (wherein Me is Co, Ru, Fe, Ni, Mn or the like; X is ClO4<->, BF4<->, PF6<->, SO3<->, CF3SO3<->, Cl<-> or SO4<2->; R1 is CH3, NO2, OH or OHCH2CH2)]. An electrode for measuring a carbon dioxide concentration prepared by using the above cation exchange membrane serves to improve the sensitivity of a carbon dioxide reduction current value, the sensitivity for an oxygen gas and therefore the measurement accuracy of a carbon dioxide gas concentration. |
