[Also in Divisions F2 and F4] A liquid-petroleum gas-converter is put into operation by manually actuating a switch through one of two sets of levers, one of said sets being also coupled to a diaphragm 35, Fig. 7, subjected on one side to vacuum in a chamber 24 e. g. derived from an engine manifold and to atmospheric pressure on the other side in a chamber 26. Upon releasing the manual actuating means the switch opens unless vacuum is acting in chamber 24. Closure of the switch energizes a solenoid 71, Fig.10, to lower an armature 88 and enable a closure member 93 to fall and open a passage from an inlet 14 to a passage 103. The closure member 93 has a channel 95 therethrough which is controlled by the adjacent end 91 of the armature so should the member 93 not open upon energizing the solenoid 71 the end 91 opens the channel 95 after which the solenoid can unseat the member 93. Liquid in passage 103 flows through a pressureregulating valve (108), Fig.9 (not shown) and expands into gaseous form in a space (116a) from where it flows through heat exchanger 118, Fig. 7, surrounded by engine coolant to an outlet via a chamber 27 on one side of a spring-loaded diaphragm 50, the other side of which defines the chamber 26. The diaphragm 50 is connected to the pressure-regulating valve (108) by a lever 140, a link 135 and adjustable spring-loaded lever (127), Fig. 8 (not shown). The solenoid 71 is cooled by atmospheric air from chamber 26 due to flow therearound caused by motion of the diaphragm 50.</p> |
