Substantially pure C1-6 monoalkoxy- or monocycloalkoxy-titanium triiodides are reacted with organo-aluminium compounds to give catalysts suitable for polymerizing butadiene-1.3.ALSO:Substantially pure C1- 16 monoalkoxy- or monocycloalkoxy-titanium triiodides are prepared by reacting titanium tetraiodide with a titanium tetraalkoxide or tetracycloalkoxide in the presence of an inert organic solvent with the exclusion of oxygen and moisture using an inert atmosphere, the reaction being carried out at 30-80 DEG C. and the reaction time being a maximum of 150 minutes.
