Piston IC engine working temp. booster - has heating air heat exchanger passed by combustion gas or gases of separate burner

The temp. booster has a heater close to the intake air bypass and uses a control valve to vary the amount of air passing through the bypass depending on the i.c. engine parameters. The heater is designed as an air/air heat exchanger (5) which is passed by hot combustion gases from a separate burner (10) and which is sited in, or forms part of the bypass line (4). Pref. the heat exchanger consists of spaced sheet metal elements in a housing, with the elements interconnected at upstream and downstream ends (31,32) which are, in turn, sealed to the bypass. USE/ADVANTAGE - For piston diesel engines, with simple fuel injection control.
