A method of starting a thyristor current inverter, using forced flow of current, increasing with time, through an input choke, characterized in that a controlled switch (L) of the starting assembly (ZR) is used to force the flow of current, increasing with time, in a circuit consisting of an input choke (Ld) connected in series with the starting assembly (ZR), and after the attainment of a suitable value of forced current in the input choke (Ld), a control circuit is used to activate the thyristors of the current inverter (F) and simultaneously to switch off the starting assembly (ZR).<IMAGE>
