PURPOSE:To provide the optical fiber for amplification which operates efficiently in a 1.3mum band and the optical fiber amplifier for the 1.3mum band using the optical fiber. CONSTITUTION:A material whose phonon energy is <=500cm<-1> such as As-S, Ge-S, Ge-P-S, or As-Ge-S chalcogenide glass or ZnF2-InF3-PbF2-LaF3 or ZnF2- InF3-PbF2-GaF3-LaF3 fluoride glass is used as a host material, which is doped with Pr<3+> as active ions and further codoped with Eu<3++> to manufacture the optical fiber 5 for amplification; and the optical fiber amplifier for the 1.3mum band consists of the optical fiber 5 for amplification, an exciting light source 1, and an optical coupler 3. |
