PURPOSE:To provide a catalyst carrier for an exhaust purifying device difficult to break and high in durability and reliability by a method wherein the shoulder parts of the grooves and ridges of a central corrugated plate liable to thermal stress concentration are so reinforced as to impart an excellent high temp. strength to thereby prevent the buckling, deformation, cracking, etc. CONSTITUTION:This catalyst carrier 8 is of a roll-like, honeycombed structure in its entirety wherein corrugated strip-like metal plates 9 having the grooves and ridges formed successively and flat strip-like metal plates 10 are wound alternately. The thickness of the shoulder part 13 of the groove and ridge in at least the central part 12 of the corrugated metal plate 9 is greater than that of the flat plate 10. Moreover, the catalyst carrier 8 is reinforced at its places liable to the concentration of the thermal stress which is caused by the difference in the temp. of the carrier 8 between its central part 12 and the outer part 14 thereof occurring when the carrier is in use during vehicle operation and not in use with the vehicle engine stopped. |
