<p>PURPOSE:To obtain a clear picture image in a high contrast for a long period by providing an electron emitting element and an image display member parallel on a base body surface, and providing a mirror to absorb the light generated by the display member opposing to the base body surface. CONSTITUTION:By applying a specific voltage pulse to element wiring electrodes 13a and 13b, electrons are emitted from electron emitting members 15 of the element lines. The emitted electron beams fly in the direction of an element electrode 14a at the positive electrode side, and they are ON/OFF-controlled by a voltage of 10 to 1000V applied to a display member 16 at the element electrode 14a side corresponding to the data signal. And the light emitted by the display member 16 depending on the ON control is reflected in the direction to a phase plate 11 in the way of giving a directivity. By such a constitution, there is no generation of uneven brightness by breaking the electron emitting members 15 by the ion shocks, and a clear picture image can be maintained in a high contrast for a long period.</p> |
