Hinge for bonnet of car - has eyes forming elongated holes and spring-loaded arrester plates with friction surfaces

The hinge is for a car front bonnet, having two screws in line forming the hinge axis. Each of these is a close fit in a first eye fixed to the bonnet, and passes through a second eye on the other hinge half, being secured in the axial direction by a nut. Each second eye (4) forms an elongated holes (5) parallel to the hinging direction of the bonnet. An arrester plate (10) with friction surface (9) slides axially, with no free movement, on the shank (6) of the screw (1), its friction surface being opposite a mating one (8) on the second hinge half (4). A compression spring (11) on the shank generates friction between the surfaces. USE/ADVANTAGE - Allows adjustment of the desired bonnet shut position without alternately opening and shutting it.
