In a heel seat lasting and back part moulding machine, heat sensitive adhesive on the insole is activated by a heater 30 which is movable from an out of the way position to one side of the insole to an operative position directly above the insole, the heater including means for blowing a stream of gas across the heating elements so that the heated gas impinges on the adhesive coated surface of the insole. The heater 30 is carried by an arm 48 mounted on the end of a shaft 50 which can rotate in a sleeve 52 against the action of a spring 56. The sleeve 52 is pivoted at 62 to a bracket 64 on the machine frame. Actuation of an air cylinder operates a rod 70 which causes both rotation of the sleeve 52 about pivot 62 and rotation of the shaft 50 in the sleeve 52 so that the heater 30 moves upwards and to one side of the insole to its out-of-the-way position. The heater 30 consists of two electric heating elements 32 which are mounted in a hood 34 (Fig. 6) and a manifold 42 above the hood 34 supplies a stream of air from a conduit 46, through apertures 40 in the hood 34, across the heating elements 32 and on to the insole. The machine also includes a back part gauge 117 (Fig. 1) which is used to position the top line of the upper 22 on the heel form 14. The gauge 17 consists of a plate which is adjustably mounted on the end of an arm 92 which is pivoted to a bracket 94 on the machine frame. A roller 120 on the outer mould 24 holds the gauge 117 in its operative position, and when the outer mould 24 is moved forwardly allows a compression spring 122 to move the gauge to an out of the way position.
