PURPOSE:To prevent any image running which may occur in an ultrasonic tomographic image. CONSTITUTION:The thickness of a sheath 22 is made less in a range Lb to be subjected to a constant speed scanning out of the range L where a scanning is made with an ultrasonic vibrator 7 as compared with those of both end parts La thereof. An inversion area is judged from a difference in pattern of a multiple echo received with the ultrasonic vibrator 7. Thus, an image signal alone detected in the range Lb scanned at a constant speed with the ultrasonic vibrator 7 is shown on a TV monitor 5.
