PURPOSE:To obtain the subject high-purity compounds useful as a raw material for polycarbonate resins, etc., in simplified purification steps by reacting fluorene with phenol, etc., in the presence of a specific ion exchange resin as a catalyst. CONSTITUTION:9-Fluorene is reacted with phenols selected from phenol and alkylphenols (e.g. 2-methylphenol) in the presence of a water-insoluble sulfonic acid type cation exchange resin subjected to neutralizing treatment with a sulfur compound such as 2,2-dimethylthiazolidine as a catalyst to afford the objective compounds. |
