PURPOSE:To obtain the subject compound suitable for light recording material under controlling halogenation ratio by reacting a specific phthalocyanine compound with a halogenating agent in a mixed solvent consisting of an organic solvent and water at a specific temperature. CONSTITUTION:A phthalocyanine expressed by formula I [R<1> to R<4> are (substituted) alkyl; Met is 2 H, divalent metal, monosubstituted trivalent metal, di-substituted quadrivalent metal or oxy metal] is reacted with a halogenating agent (preferably bromine) in a mixed solvent consisting of an organic solvent (preferably n-hexane, n-pentane, n-octane, cyclohexane, methylcyclohexane, ethylcyclohexane, THF, n-butyl ether, n-propyl ether, isopropyl ether, carbon tetrachloride, chloroform, dichloroethane, 1,1,1-trichloroethane, 1,1,2- trichloroethane or 1,1,2,2-tetrachloroethane) and water at 20-90 deg.C to provide the objective compound expressed by formula II (X is Cl, Br or I; (n) is 1-12). |
