A method for removal of copper coatings from steel moulds, characterized in that a copper-coated object is immersed in a solution prepared of 40 to 200 g of a mixture of ammonium carbonate with ammonium bicarbonate and of 3 to 25 g of copper ion, used as a catalyst, dissolved in 1 dm3 of water, where the process is performed at a temperature of 278-353 K, with air or oxygen being fed intensively to the system under a pressure of 0.01-0.5 MPa.
