PURPOSE:To obtain a wavelength multiplexed/space multiplexed composite optical exchanging function by appropriately arranging and connecting demultiplexers, spatial switches and multiplexers without using a wavelength converter. CONSTITUTION:Optical beams having respective wavelength lambda1 to lambdam are transmitted from respective input optional fibers 11 to 1m, the beams of respective wavelength lambda1 to lambdam are used as channels for signal transmission so that the number of transmitting subscribers can be increased up to mXm persons and beams with respective wavelength lambda1 to lambdan are transmitted to output optical fibers 51 to 5n. An optical demultiplexer 2 is constituted of plural demultiplexers 21 to 2n, each demultiplexer is provided with n output ports P01 to P0n and each output port outputs its corresponding wavelength. The spatial switch 3 is constituted of nXn switches 31 to 3n and outputs from respective demultiplexers 21 to 2n are inputted to respective switches 31 to 3n. Each of respective multiplexers 41 to 4n is provided with n input ports Pi0 to Pin and a beam with one fixed wavelength is inputted to its corresponding input port similarly to the demultiplexers 21 to 2n. Thus respective input beams are combined by respective output optical fibers 51 to 5n and outputted. |
