Method for forming an orthodontic appliance (10) comprising a plurality of supports each comprising a notch in which an arch wire (14) is arranged, having, in plan view, a progressively curved configuration and, in elevation, a planar configuration. In order to form the appliance, the contour of each tooth is determined in a linguofacial direction for the canines, the lateral and central incisors and in a linguobuccal direction for the premolars and the molars. In this determination, the cuspids and the marginal crests are determined for the premolars and the molars as well as the positions of intersection of each tooth with the gingiva (gum); data representative of each tooth are derived from the data thus determined and the determined and derived data are processed, for example using a microprocessor, to determine the position of the tooth for fixing the associated support and for determining the parameters of the notch to be formed in the support. <IMAGE>
