PURPOSE:To make it possible to polish an error relating to tense by comparing the tense of a verb (phrase) of an inputted sentence with a correct tense using method to polish the tense and displaying the polished sentence. CONSTITUTION:An input sentence to be polished is read out (S10), parts of speech are applied (S20) to respective words in the input sentence by consulting a dictionary and its sentence pattern is analyzed (S30) based upon the arrangement of the parts of speech. At the time of the analysis, a predicate verb, a subject corresponding to the predicate and a verb pattern are determined. The tense of the verb is analyzed (S40) based upon the analyzed result of the sentence pattern. A clause is analyzed (S50) based upon the analysis result, an adverb or a conjunction expressing time at each clause is detected and whether the tense of the verb (phrase) coincides with the time or not is judged (S60). Whether the input sentence is a subjunctive mood sentence or not is judged, and whether the tense of the conditional clause in the subjunctive mood coincides with the tense of the apodosis clause or not is judged (S70). Then whether the tense of the main clause of a complex sentence coincides with that of the subordinate clause or not is judged (S80) and its polished result is displayed (S90). |
