A communication-network surge absorber is provided with a PNPN-structure semiconductor element and PNstructure semiconductor element. A terminal connected to an external P-section of the semiconductor element and a terminal connected to an external N-section of the semiconductor element are used as connection terminals. An Nsection of a semiconductor element is electrically connected to an external P-section of the semiconductor element and a P-section of the semiconductor element is electrically connected to an internal P-section serving as a gate terminal of the semiconductor element. The communicationnetwork surge absorber makes it possible to obtain a large surge-current resistant capacity at a low breakover voltage.
