<PICT:1090585/C1/1> An enclosure for a photo-sensitive device, e.g. a photodiode or phototransistor, Fig. 7, comprises a metal tube 10 with an axial metal rod 18 glass-sealed to it over a substantial part of its length. The device 22, which is mounted on the end of the rod is illuminated via window 32 the metal frame of which is sealed to the tube. The tube and window assemblies are both formed by outgassing and oxidizing the insides of "KOVAR" (Trade mark) tubes, placing glass tubes and rods respectively within them and heating to 950-1150 DEG C. in inert gas. In forming the tube assembly the rod is sealed in the tube in the same operation. missing page 166
|
