1,090,244. Photographic silver halide materials. E. I. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO. May 20, 1965 [June 24, 1964], No. 21447/65. Heading G2C. Photographic silver halide materials contain in the light-sensitive silver halide emulsion or another layer, one or more compounds of the formula: wherein A is in which X is -O- or and wherein R, R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> are each H, Cl, Br, alkyl or substituted alkyl of 1-4 carbon atoms, acyl, carboxyl, carbamoyl or alkoxycarbonyl of 2-5 carbon atoms or R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> together form an aromatic ring; R 3 is H, carboxyl, carbamoyl or alkoxycarbonyl of 2-5 carbon atoms; R<SP>4</SP> is H, alkyl or alkoxycarbonyl each of 1-4 carbons or R<SP>3</SP> and R<SP>4</SP> together are doubly bonded oxygen; and R<SP>5</SP> is alkyl or substituted alkyl each of 1-4 carbons, aralkyl or aryl. Compounds specified include kojic acid, maltol and 3-hydroxy-pyrone. Alkalimetal salts of ethylenediamine tetracetic acid may also be present. The materials have a reduced tendency to spot and streak due to dust particle contamination.
