The impact absorbing faces of the extruded frame (1) have dovetail parts (6,7), onto which are slid edge sections (4,5) similarly extruded and covering the length of the frame to be reinforced. The reinforcements are applied at the centre of the impact force. They are fitted at either side up to a point, where two thirds of the force has to be dissipated. The extrusions are of aluminium or fibre reinforced aluminium. The reinforcements have a height to width ratio of 2:1.
