The engine has a conventional pistons in cylinders with combustion chambers formed in the cylinder head. The pistons are of aluminium treated with a thin layer of anodic oxidation. The combustion of the gases generates ionisation of the gas, aided by the oxidised layer. A coil is wound in the wall of the cylinder round the region where the ionised gases are generated. The coil is positioned where it is cooled by the engine cooling system. The electricity generated in the coil is used to charge the vehicle battery or to drive a motor that supplements the engine power.
