PURPOSE:To provide a catalyst having excellent activity in the isomerization of dimethylnaphthalene, effective in suppressing demethylation reaction, disproportionation reaction and intermolecular rearrangement reaction and capable of keeping the catalytic activity over a long period and to provide a process for the isomerization of dimethylnaphthalene. CONSTITUTION:Dimethylnaphthalenes containing less than thermodynamic equilibrium concentration of 2,6-dimethylnaphthalene are isomerized in the presence of a catalyst containing a mordenite containing at least one kind of cation selected from thallium, cesium and rubidium. |
