The prosthesis consists of at least two cap portions (8,9) with an intermediate portion (5) forming a bridge between them. The caps are partly formed by casting material, and at least the outer layer (5a) of the bridge portion is also cast. The bridge portion incorporates a beam section (10) with an embedded core component (19), typically a bar of titanium or a composite material. The cast material of the outer layer of the bridge portion merges with the cast material of the cap portions. ADVANTAGE - Improved mechanical strength, with homogenous external surface layer improving wear properties.
