Continuous stacking of sheets.

When a stack 7 of sheets 6 fed by means 1-5 is to be removed on its support 8, an auxiliary stack-supporting sheet 17 (eg of paper, cardboard or plastics) is moved into the stacking region and held (eg by lateral clamps 16) so as to support subsequently arriving sheets, the sheet 17 remaining under the forming stack and being deposited with this stack on a replacement support 8. For each stack, a new sheet 17 is provided, eg cut at 18 from a web 13 or fed from a cassette of sheets (figure 2).
