A lighting device and a display device are provided to guide light with improved a degree of parallelism into a thin light guide plate, thereby embodying the lighting device with high luminance, low power consumption, a thin type, and light weight. A lighting device(10) includes plural light sources(14), a first light guide plate(12), a second light guide plate, and a light condensing unit. The first light guide plate receives light from the light sources. The second light guide plate receives the light passing through the first light guide plate. The light condensing unit is positioned between the first light guide plate and the second light guide plate. The thickness of the second light guide plate is thicker than that of the first light guide plate. Plural truncated pyramids(16) are positioned between the light sources and the first light guide plate. Each of the truncated pyramids has a base portion and a die portion smaller than the base portion, and has an inclined surface between the base portion and the die portion. Each light emitting unit of the light sources is smaller than or equal to the die portion of the each truncated pyramid, and is disposed to be closely attached to the die portion of the each truncated pyramid. The first light guide plate is disposed to be closely attached to the base portion of the each truncated pyramid. Light is transmitted without passing through an air layer from the each light emitting portion of the light sources to the first light guide plate.
