A method of determining the actual sectional area of being cut layer, during grinding of cylindrical components, in accordance with which process of cutting is carried out and the parameters of processed surface at assigned points are measured, according to which the actual sectional area of being cut layer is calculated. As parameters of processed surface the radii of the surface of billet before and after cutting are measured, according to which the depth of cutting is calculated, and the actual sectional area of being cut layer is calculated according to the following dependence:
