摘要 A backlight unit using an LED is provided to improve light transmittance in a dark portion, thereby increasing the pitch of LEDs while suppressing the generation of the dark portion and reducing the height of a light diffusing plate. A backlight unit(100) includes plural LEDs(Light Emitting Diodes)(103) and a light diffusing plate(105). The plural LEDs are disposed on a substrate. The light diffusing plate is spaced from the LEDs, is disposed on the LEDs, and has a lower surface opposite to the substrate. The light diffusing plate has a lower density than that of a light diffusing material in the upright portions(a1~a5) of the LEDs and has plural low-density regions(B) positioned at a point farthest from the upright portions in a horizontal direction. The average of the light diffusing density in the low-density area is lower than that of the upright portions in a range of 7 to 25%. The low-density area has an area corresponding to a range of 1/10 to 1/3 of a unit cell area which connects points of the adjacent upright portions of the LEDs.
