<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus and an image forming method that can excellently record an object image having a background on recording paper. <P>SOLUTION: A background judgement unit 70 detects whether or not the object image has a background. When it is judged that the object image has a background, a background substituting unit 73 substitutes white for image data of a part corresponding to the background in image data and a recording paper selector 90 selects a paper feed unit 52 since prescribed paper is selected as recording paper.
