PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a switching unit capable of discriminating pieces of image information input from two or more input parts and outputting it from an output part corresponding to the kind thereof. SOLUTION: The switching unit 1 is so configured that a synchronizing signal detector 4 detects a synchronizing signal included in the image information input from each input part 2 and a timing generator 22 generates timing when the image information is output by a timing generator 22 on the basis of the detected synchronizing signal. A timing comparator 23 compares image information supplied from the timing generator 22 with the image information input from each input part 2 for a predetermined period on the basis of the generated timing, and a source signal selector 9 individually switches an output part 11 to which the image information input to each input part 2 is output on the basis of the comparison result of the timing comparator 23.
