PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light source device configured to avoid the occurrence of a marked luminescent point by zero-order light, and to improve a light utilization efficiency, and to provide a projector. SOLUTION: The light source device 1 for generating an illuminating light for illuminating an object illumination area on a prescribed surface to be irradiated includes a light source 2 that emits light; a diffraction optical element 4 that diffracts the incident light emitted from the light source 2 and emits the light in a direction different from that of the zero-order light and emits the diffracted light including first diffracted light L2 going toward the object illumination area and second diffracted light L3 traveling toward an area, other than the object illumination area; and a reflecting member 5 that reflects the second diffracted light L3 toward the object illumination area.
