PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic document feeder capable of certainly guiding a document toward a reading part of an image and including releasing constitution free to easily and certainly remove the document when carrying failure occurs. SOLUTION: This automatic document feeder A includes: a document carrier passage 11 to guide the document P toward a platen 1a from a paper feeding tray; a guide member 31 arranged at a position where a head end part 34a makes contact with an upper part of the platen 1a and to supply the document P onto the platen 1a; a guide plate 25 arranged opposed to the guide member 31 and forming a part of the document carrier passage 11 between itself and the guide member 31; and a guide cover 37 constituted free to revolve in a direction to open the document carrier passage 11, wherein a lever member 41 to slide and move the guide member 31 in a direction to be separated from the guide plate 25 interlocked with revolving motion of the guide cover 37 is provided.
