PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a footstep of an escalator having a structure to project a cushioning material of a footstep acute angle part upward by spring force when the surface of a footboard comes out of a getting on/off part and to withdraw the cushioning material by being pushed down by comb teeth when a footstep enters the getting on/off part. SOLUTION: This footstep is provided with a footboard 2 having a plurality of cleats and risers 3. The footstep is provided with each of the plurality of cushioning materials 6 provided between the cleats of riser mounting side end parts of the footboard 2, and an energizing body 9 provided between the footboard 2 and the cushioning materials 6 to energize the plurality of cushioning materials 6 to project upward from upper surfaces of the cleats when the surface of the footboard 2 comes out of the getting on/off part on which passengers get, and to accept the plurality of cushioning materials 6 at withdrawing positions between the cleats 2 of the footboard 2 by being pushed down by comb teeth of the getting on/off part when the footstep enters the getting on/off part.
